Two forces whose resultant is 80newton are perpendicular to each other. If one of them makes angle 60degree with the resultant, calculate it's magnitude

1 answer

Let the magnitude of the force making an angle of 60° with the resultant be F.

Then, the magnitude of the other force = 80 - F

Since the two forces are perpendicular to each other,

F × (80 - F) = 80 × 80

F2 - 80F + 6400 = 6400

F2 - 80F = 0

F(F - 80) = 0

F = 0 or F = 80

Since the magnitude of the force cannot be 0,

F = 80N
