On August 12, 2018, the Parker Solar Probe was launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. The spacecraft is designed to study the Sun's outer atmosphere and its effects on the solar wind. The mission is expected to last seven years and will bring the spacecraft within 3.9 million miles of the Sun's surface, closer than any other spacecraft has ever been.
