Convert 6 1/4 to an improper fraction (25/4)

Convert 11 1/2 to an improper fraction (23/2)

Multiply 23/2 by 2/2 to get a common denominator

which makes 25/4 +23x2/4

And 25+46=71

So 71/4

Then to change it back into a mixed number you divide 71 by 4 and get

17 3/4
