    shoes: 1/2
shorts: 3/4 * 1/2 = 3/8
1/2 + 3/8 = 7/8 spent, so the $450 left was 1/8 of the money
1/2 - 3/8 = 1/8, so
the difference was $450

shorts: 3/4 * 1/2 = 3/8
1/2 + 3/8 = 7/8 spent, so the $450 left was 1/8 of the money
1/2 - 3/8 = 1/8, so
