2Fe^2+ + Cl2 ==> 2Cl^- + 2Fe^3+
When Cl2 is bubbled through FeCl2 the solution turns from a greenish color to a yellowish color because the ferrous solution [Fe(II)] has been oxidized to ferric [Fe(III)].
