The question is quite stupid.

m = present mother's age

d = present daugher's age

The ages of a mother and daughter are in ratio 8:5 means:

m / d = 8 / 5

Replace d by 15 in this equation.

m / 15 = 8 / 5

Cross multiply.

m • 5 = 15 • 8

5 m = 120

m = 120 / 5 = 24

Mother present age = 24

Daughter present age = 15

This means, the mother gave birth to her daughter when she was 9 years old???

Mother's age 6 yrs ago = 24 - 6 = 18
