A bee flies 22 cm in a northerly direction and then walks southeasterly (45° east of south) a distance of 47 cm. What is its resultant displacement?

north = 22 - 47 cos 45 = -11.2
east = 47 sin 45 = 33.2
magnitude = sqrt (125.4 +1105) = 35.1
direction south of east = tan^-1( 11.2/33.2) = 18.6 deg
