Is (0,3) a solution to the equation y=X+3

2 answers

It depends on what you mean when you say solution.

If you think that the point ( 0 , 3 ) lies on the direction:

y = x + 3

then ( 0 , 3 ) is a solution because

( 0 , 3 ) is a point with coordinates:

x = 0 , y = 3

In equation

y = x + 3

put values x = 0 and y = 3

y = x + 3

3 = 0 + 3

3 = 3

So ( 0 , 3 ) is one of the points on the line y = x + 3

Specifically, this point is called the y-intercept.

But if you are looking for the solution y = x + 3 = 0 then ( 0, 3 ) is not a solution because:

y = x + 3 = 0

gives

x + 3 = 0

x = - 3

x = - 3 , y = 0

By the way, this point is called x-intercept.

Most often, the solution requires y to be equal to zero.

I assume that it is the same here.

So in that case ( 0 , 3 ) is not a solution to the equation y = x + 3
what a load of rubbish is the last half of your response, @Bosnian!
