I am making a presentation for my class. I'm comparing how a stage backdrop is like a trompe l'oeil. Do you think it'd be too presumptive to assume 15 year olds know what that is? I don't want to act condescending and go "a trompe l'oeil is a work designed to fool the eye..." but I don't want to say it and have everyone go "what?!?" Thanks.

I think you should briefly explain trompe l'oeil. I'm sure many adults don't know this term.
