Question
A mixture contain ammonium chloride, copper(II) oxide and sodium chloride.describe how each of the substance can be obtained from the mixture
Answers
This can be done but with some difficulty. Place the mixture in a container and heat. The NH4Cl will vaporize and the vapors should be passed over a cool surface in order to condense the vapors. The two remaining substances are placed in water where the NaCl will dissolve. Filter the mixture and the copper (II) oxide will be held back on the filter paper while the solution will pass through. Then boil away the water to leave the NaCl solid by itself. The hard part of this procedure is setting up the apparatus so that the NH4Cl vapors can be colleced on a cool surface.
