Assign the oxidation state of all the atoms in Fe3O4

Fe3O4 total is zero
4*-2 = -8 for oxygen so Fe = +8/3 as an average.
It has been found that two of the Fe atoms have an oxidation state of +3 and one is +2 making the average of 8/3 for the three in Fe3O4.
