The sound wave produced by a trumpet has a frequency of 440 hertz. what is the distance between successive compressions in this sound wave as it travels through air at STP?
1. 1.5*10^-6m
2. 0.78m
3. 1.3m
4. 6.8*10^5m

if the speed of sound in air is v, then recall that
v = fλ
so plug in your frequency and v, then you can calculate λ

T = period of wave = 1/f = 1/440 = 0.00227 seconds
wavelength = speed * period = about 350 m/s * .00227 s = 0.79 meter
wavelength = speed * period = about 350 m/s * .00227 s = 0.79 meter
