A train travels north (y) 40 miles per hour at 12:00 noon. Another train travels east (x) at 50 miles per hour at 2:00 pm from the same point. What is the distance between the two trains at 3:00 pm?

since distance = speed * time, the distance d is found via
d^2 = (40*3)^2 + (50*1)^2
looks like a 5-12-13 triangle to me
