How does electricity turn into light in a common light bulb?

The wire filament has resistance = R
the current through the wire i = V/R
the power into the wire is then P = V i = V^2/R
that power has to go somewhere
what it does is heat the wire up.
when metal gets hot it radiates heat and light, turns red then white as electromagnetic radiation.
The electricity did not "turn into light". It heated metal up and the metal radiated heat and light.
