When a system in equilibrium is subjected to a stress the system will shift in such as way so as to relieve the stress. In simpler terms, Le Chatelier's Principle says that when we do something to a system in equilibrium it will try to undo what we did to it. So if we add a reactant the system will shift to the right which will produce more produces and use up some of what we added as a reactant.
