factor things and cancel common factors
(x^2-3x+2) / (x^2-5x+4) = (x-1)(x-2) / (x-1)(x-4) = (x-2)/(x-4)
(x^2+10x+24) / (x^2+8x+12) = (x+4)(x+6) / (x+2)(x+6) = (x+4)/(x+2)
(x-2)/(x-4) - (x+4)/(x+2) = ((x^2-4)-(x^2-16))/ ((x-4)(x+2))
