how does an equation indicates the translations parallel to the x and y axes that occurs from the base function or relation? needs to be some type of generalised statement (e.g function f(X) or a translation of <h,k>)

    to translate horizontally by h to the right and v upward, replace
y = f(x)
by
y-k = f(x-h)

y = f(x)
by
y-k = f(x-h)
