Figurative language in wake me up lines 1-4

1 answer

For starters, I assume that you are talking about the "Wake Me Up" by Avicii/Aloe Blacc.

If this is correct, then you can say that a hyperbole, or exaggeration, is being used in line 2 when it says "Guided by a beating heart". The reason it can be considered a hyperbole is because your heart is helping you make decisions along your journey, but you are not actually being guided by your beating heart.

I understand that this answer wasn't the best, but I was struggling to find another solution.

For anyone else that wants to try and answer this question, the first 4 lines of "Wake Me Up" are:
Feeling my way through the darkness
Guided by a beating heart
I can't tell where the journey will end
But I know where to start
