Xayden and Peter share some candies. If Xayden gives 2/5 of his share to Peter, Peter will have 156 more candies than him. If Xayden gives 3/4 of his share to Peter, Peter will have 240 more candies than him. How many candies must Peter give to Xayden so that they will have the same number of candies?

to start, they have x and p candies, respectively. Then we learn that
3/5 x + 156 = p + 2/5 x
1/4 x + 250 = p + 3/4 x
solve that, and finish it off.
the desired number is just 1/2 the difference between p and x
3/5 x + 156 = p + 2/5 x
1/4 x + 250 = p + 3/4 x
solve that, and finish it off.
the desired number is just 1/2 the difference between p and x
