how to Graph the points (–3.5,–5), (4.5,–1.5), and (–1.5,0.5) on the coordinate plane.

start at the intersection of the axes. That is at (0,0)
up and right are positive, down and left are negative
So, for (-3.5,-5) move left 3.5 and down 5. Make a dot there.
Do the others in like wise.
Surely this explained in your text. I know google produces many examples.
