Why do objects orbit the sun?

So, you know how those things in malls work? The ones where you put the coin in and it spins around until it gets to the center. That's kind of what's happening in space. Not only is the mass of the object being orbited greater, it is creating a sort of dip, I guess you could say. Eventually the two objects will collide. I do hope this helps.
