unless "1/5 less" means 4/5 as much., as in a 20% sale means the price is 1/5 less than it was.

The words are ambiguous.. Use math to be clear.

4/5 * 7 n = 28 n/5 = (25 + 3) n/5= 5 n + 3 n/5
