What is the effective nuclear charge on the valence electrons of silicon?

Doing this the simple way I would go
Zeff = Z - S
2 electrons in the first shell, 8 electrons in the second shell and 4 electrons in the outside shell.
Zeff = 14 - 10 = 4
Zeff = Z - S
2 electrons in the first shell, 8 electrons in the second shell and 4 electrons in the outside shell.
Zeff = 14 - 10 = 4
