What happens when you enlarge rectangles with different areas by scale factor of two

area grows by scale^2, or 2^2 = 4

you can see this since if the rectangle is x by y, then
A = xy
the new area, with the sides doubled, is
(2x)(2y) = (2*2)xy = 4xy
