The "point-slope" form of the equation of a straight line :
y - y1 = m ( x - x1 )
y = m ( x - x1 ) + y1
In this case:
x1 = 4 , y1 = - 2 , m = 1 / 2
y = m ( x - x1 ) + y1
y = 1 / 2 ( x - 4 ) + ( - 2 )
y = 1 / 2 x - 2 - 2
y = 1 / 2 x - 4
For x = - 4
y = 1 / 2 x - 4
y = 1 / 2 ( - 4 ) - 4
y = - 2 - 4
y = - 6
y - y1 = m ( x - x1 )
y = m ( x - x1 ) + y1
In this case:
x1 = 4 , y1 = - 2 , m = 1 / 2
y = m ( x - x1 ) + y1
y = 1 / 2 ( x - 4 ) + ( - 2 )
y = 1 / 2 x - 2 - 2
y = 1 / 2 x - 4
For x = - 4
y = 1 / 2 x - 4
y = 1 / 2 ( - 4 ) - 4
y = - 2 - 4
y = - 6
