    assuming you want to solve for x, then
since y = -x,
x - b(-x) = a
x + bx = a
x(b+1) = a
x = a/(b+1)
    
since y = -x,
x - b(-x) = a
x + bx = a
x(b+1) = a
x = a/(b+1)
