A girl moves from a point p on a bearing of 060 degree to a q, 40m away. She then moves from the point q, on a bearing of 120 degree to a point r. The bearing of p from r is 255 degree, calculate, correct to 3 significant figures, the distance between p and r.

Draw the triangle PQR. angle P is 120°, and angle R is 45°
So angle P is 15°
Using the law of sines,
PR/sin120° = 40/sin45°
So angle P is 15°
Using the law of sines,
PR/sin120° = 40/sin45°

r[sin R]=q[sin Q]
=40[sin 45¤]=q[sin 120¤]
cross multiply them
=q sin 45¤=40 sio 120¤
q=40 sin 120¤/sin 45¤
q=48.98979486m
q is appromately =49.0m
=40[sin 45¤]=q[sin 120¤]
cross multiply them
=q sin 45¤=40 sio 120¤
q=40 sin 120¤/sin 45¤
q=48.98979486m
q is appromately =49.0m
