Why does the moon appear during daytime?

Depending on the time of month sometimes the moon is on the opposite side of earth from the sun (full moon)
sometimes it is on the same side (new or no moon)
the rest of the time it is in between and some of it is lighted by the sun so you can see part of it before or after the sun gets behind the earth where you are.
