you know that √-1 = i is not real, so what about √i ?
-1 = 1cisπ
(-1)^(3/4) = 1cis(3π/4) = -1/√2 + 1/√2 i
-1 = 1cisπ
(-1)^(3/4) = 1cis(3π/4) = -1/√2 + 1/√2 i
