7 1/6 - 6 4/6 = ?

could you please show me the steps to do this problem?

thank you,
ryan

7 1/6 = 6 7/6
- 6 4/6 = -6 4/6
-------
3/6 = 1/2

mixed fractions are useless in calculations so the first thing you have to do is change them to improper fractions

7 1/6 + 6 4/6
=43/6 + 40/6
=83/6 or 13 5/6

The very first thing you have to do with a Mixed fraction is to turn it into a improper one. By doing that you have to multiply the mixed number by the denominator like:

7 1/6 : 7x6=42

Then your fraction is improper and looks like this: 42/6
Also add the fraction beside the mixed number to your improper fraction like this: 42/6 + 1/6 = 43/6

Do this with your other mixed fraction too and youll end up with the answer.

7x6= 42/6 + 1/6 = 43/6
6x6= 36/6 + 4/6 = 40/6
43/6 - 40/6 = 3/6

Simplify 3/6 and get 1/2

1/2 is your answer.

To solve the problem, you need to subtract the second mixed fraction from the first mixed fraction. Here are the steps:

Step 1: Convert the mixed fractions to improper fractions.
7 1/6 can be written as (6 * 7 + 1) / 6 = 43/6
6 4/6 can be written as (6 * 6 + 4) / 6 = 40/6

Step 2: Subtract the fractions.
43/6 - 40/6
Since the denominators are the same, you can subtract the numerators directly.
(43 - 40) / 6 = 3/6

Step 3: Simplify the fraction.
The fraction 3/6 can be simplified by dividing both the numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor, which is 3.
3/6 divided by 3/3 = (3/6) * (3/3) = 9/18
Divide both numerator and denominator by 9 to simplify it further.
9/18 divided by 9/9 = (9/18) * (9/9) = 1/2

Therefore, 7 1/6 - 6 4/6 is equal to 1/2.
