I think that the society didn't think of any importance in girls because they let them die and sacrifice themselves to the sea god even at a young age. It suggests that the society wasn't a place where everything was fair and equal since only girls were dying every

I think that the purpose of this folktale is to show bravery and kindness can defeat evil because tokoyo used bravery to go and kill the sea monster and it was also kindness because then, girls wouldn't need to be sacrificed every year and also the emperor’ s illnesses were gone. I think that also the purpose of this folktale is to show that anything can happen if you achieve and also that if something bad happens, good will come as a reward sometimes because tokoyo was forbidden to see her father and she missed him but then later on, tried to find him and she succeeded in reuniting with him . Also, her bravery and the fact that she was going in the sea instead if the younger girl was a good deed to do.
