A person with a mass of 72.0 kg stands on a scale in an elevator that is moving upwards with a speed of 5.9m/s. The elevator comes to a stop over the course of 2.5 seconds. To the nearest Newton ( 1N), what weight did the scale report as the elevator came to a stop?

acceleration = change of velocity / change in time = ( 0 - 5.9 ) / 2.5
= - 2.36 m/s^2
Force up = F - 9.81 * (72) = m A = 72 * ( -2.36)
F = ( 9.81 - 2.36) * 72
= - 2.36 m/s^2
Force up = F - 9.81 * (72) = m A = 72 * ( -2.36)
F = ( 9.81 - 2.36) * 72
