First equation:
3 y = x - 4
y = x / 3 - 4 / 3
y = 1 / 3 x - 4 / 3
Second equation:
3 x - 9 y = - 12
- 9 y = - 12 - 3 x
Multiply both sides by - 1
9 y = 3 x + 12
y = 3 x / 9 + 12 / 9
y = 3 x / 3 ∙ 3 + 3 ∙ 4 / 3 ∙ 3
y = x / 3 + 4 / 3
y = 1 / 3 x + 4 / 3
Both lines have the same slope ( 1 / 3 ) so they are parallel.
The parallel lines do not touch at any points.
