Use the paragraph to answer the question.
The poor horse was very melancholy, and wandered up and down in the wood, seeking some little shelter from the cold wind and rain. Presently a fox met him: "What’s the matter, my friend?" said he. "Why do you hang down your head and look so lonely and woe-begone?" "Ah!" replied the horse, "justice and avarice never dwell in one house; my master has forgotten all that I have done for him so many years, and because I can no longer work he has turned me adrift and says unless I become stronger than a lion he will not take me back again; what chance can I have of that? He knows I have none, or he would not talk so."
Which idea is stated explicitly in the text?
A The fox is trying to trick the horse.
B The horse feels sad about his current situation.
C The horse believes he has a chance to return to his master.
D The farmer was sad to let his horse go.

2 The farmer has not acted fairly towards the horse.
3 theme, not stated directly
4 Big problems seem smaller with help.
5 an analysis
6 Jacques joined the crew of the Orion.
7 Jacques carried boxes onto the chaotic deck.
8 Jorge is reliable.
9 The trees were her shield from the predators of the forest.
10 The spelling bee is to Sam as the World Series is to a baseball player.
Haven't taken the test but this is what I think the answers are but IDK

Just did the test, I don't know if my essay answers are right but here were my answers for the normal questions, I got an A on that part btw.
1.The horse feels sad about his current situation.
2.The farmer has not acted fairly towards the horse.
3.The [theme] is different from the main events in a story because it is [not stated directly.]
4.Big problems seem smaller with help.
5.A main idea
6.Jacques joined the crew of the Orion.
7.Jacques carried boxes onto the chaotic deck.
8.Jorge is reliable.
9.The trees were her shield from the predators of the forest.
10.The spelling bee is to Sam as the World Series is to a baseball player.
Also, the written answers talk about theme, allusions, analogies, and figurative language soo here's some help with that I guess :P
Theme: The meaning or message of a text
(Example: "Slow and steady wins the race." In the story the tortoise and the hare, the tortoise took his time and won, while the hare rushed and thought he had time to rest which made him loose."
Allusions: A reference to well known/popular piece of work, or a person, event, place, etc.
(Example: "She felt like she had a golden ticket." A reference to charlie and the chocolate factory, when charlie found the ticket he was happy, overfilled with joy, The way the girl feels is being compared to charlie when he got the ticket.)
Analogies: A comparison between things to show similarity or to clairfy (Example: “Life is like a box of chocolates—you never know what you're gonna get.” This is comparing a box of chocolates to life, life can be unexpected, just like a box of chocolate might come with different flavors and you don't know what your gonna get.)
Figurative Language: I found that many excerpts and stories in this test had many similes and metaphors, so if you didn't know, wish you should lol- Similies use like and as to compare 2 unlike things, metaphors compare 2 unlike things but do NOT use like or as.
this took way too long to write, also thx google for the examples in quotes lol

this is the last 5 free response questions
11: the theme that I could gleam from this excerpt is a theme of humility in the very end of the story a man came to see Jefferson but the landlord thought that the vice president was just some farmer covered in dirt and mud.
12: a mermaid find a man shipwrecked and unconscious underwater and saves him. she ended up falling for him. she ends up getting legs to dance with the man who is revealed to be the prince she would hear about.
13: "like a free falling elevator" shows that Melanie has stage fright. which often gives you the feeling that your stomach is falling.
"She crept slowly over to the podium and bent the microphone toward her mouth, like the straw in her pink lemonade." she moved the microphone to her mouth like a straw.
14:"If Lebron James is the king of the basketball court, then she is the queen of the kitchen" the author chose these words to show that Nani is very skilled and well adapted to a kitchen environment. she would know the in's and out's of the kitchen if she was the "queen of the kitchen" the author eluded to "love" as a powerful ingredient in reference to lots of homemade recipes call for "lots of love" because when you care about what you are making it typically comes out better.
15:the theme is rivalry from what the story told is about 2 painters who are having a friendly competition to see who is the more realistic painter. in the end they both end up coming to a draw to find out who is a better painter. so I believe that the theme is of rivalry because they keep trying to 1-up each other.

I honestly hate it when people like @Mackenzie Ziegler come on here and say "Don't give the answers". Like dude this website is for answers, and helping. We all know your'e on here for the answers, or for help. If you think this is wrong then just leave. You don't need to comment and say "You're very wrong for this", when all we are doing are helping people who need it.

@Name is correct! Also for any one in the future 11-15 you have to type out answers, so it's not the best idea to copy other people, bc teachers can look back and see that you copied someone else, or you and someone else have the same answer, and this website could be taken down or whatever idk.
One more thing! @omg.., @Mackenzie Ziegler wasn't saying don't do this, they had actually given answer before saying that. But I do agree with you, people who come on here shouldn't be saying this like that bc the only way for people to come on here is by searching the question. Hope you all do well!
