4+2(5x-8)=ax+b

5 answers

i need to know what a and b equals so the equation would have infinite solutions
4 + 2 ( 5 x - 8 ) = a x + b

4 + 2 ∙ 5 x + 2 ∙ ( - 8 ) = a x + b

4 + 10 x - 16 = a x + b

10 x - 12 = a x + b

Subtract a x to both sides

10 x - a x - 12 = b

x ( 10 - a ) - 12 = b

Add 12 to both sides

x ( 10 - a ) = b + 12

Divide both sides by 10 - a

x = ( b + 12 ) / ( 10 - a )

a ≠ 10

because when a = 10 then it divides by zero and x is undefined.

( a ≠ 10 means "a is not equal to 10" )

This equation has infinitely many solutions because you have one equation and two variables (a and b).

This means that for each value of the variable b you can take any value of the variable a, so the equation has infinitely many solutions.
but i need value of a and b and how u answer at 2:17 am when its 1:23 am
4+2(5x-8) = 10x-12
So make that identical to ax+b
