I have no idea how to do this one question..

i wrote that wrong, sorry.
it was suppose to be;
|b|+b^3;b=-2
it was suppose to be;
|b|+b^3;b=-2

as with all such problems, the variable name is just a place holder. You can substitute any value you want. So, here you have
|-2|+(-2)^2 = 2+4 = 6
