Question
what formula do i need in order to solve this
a force of 230 N applied on a hydraulic lift raises an automobile weighing 6500 N. If the applied force is exerted on a 7.0 m^2 piston, what is the area of the piston beneath the automobile?
can someone show me how to do this in steps or tell me what formula to use
thanks:)

Answers
pressure is the same on the little piston and the big piston
so
230/7 = pressure = 32.86 N/m^2
32.86 * area = 6500
solve for area
so
230/7 = pressure = 32.86 N/m^2
32.86 * area = 6500
solve for area
.0050 m^2
