What's the difference between |-3| and -3?

If the absolute value of |-3| is 3 then the difference is 6

|-3| is the distance from 0 to -3
Direction makes no matter -- both -3 and +3 are 3 away from 0.
|-3| = |3| = 3
To be formal,
|x| = x if x ≥ 0
|x| = -x if x < 0
