Find the area of the circle. Then find the area of the square. Subtract the square's area from the circle's area.

sorry my sister typed in her name so it says her name not mine
that's my answer...12.7
Ms. Sue
I got a different answer.

Did you use this formula for the area of the circle? A = pi * r^2

Did you multiply 5 * 5 for the area of the square?
Lilly
yes ma'm
Ms. Sue
Circle:
3.14 * 36 = 113.04 square inches
5 * 5 = 25 square inches

113.04 - 25 = 88.04 = 88.0 square inches
Lilly
so the circle equals 3.14rsquare (r=3.5 square) and that equals 11

then for the square 5square and that equals 20

then 20-11=9
the answer is 9?
Ms. Sue
The radius is 6 inches.
Square that and multiply by 3.14 to find the area of the circle. See above.
