4. What happens to the area of a square when the sides are doubled? (HINT- a square with two sides measuring 2 inches each, it has an area of 4 square inches. If you double the sides to 4 inches, it has an area of 16 square inches.

Even in the example they give in the question
from 4 to 16 would NOT be doubled but quadrupled.
suppose the side of the original square is x units
then its area is x^2
Now you are doubling the side to 2x
then its area is (2x)(2x) = 4x^2, which is 4 times (quadrupled) the original area
