Why isn't it cause and effect?

^ It is contrast because it is contrasting to different ideas. The first idea is that Johannes Gutenberg created the print and press. The second idea is that actually, Gutenberg only picked up on ideas originating from China. He didn't solely invent the print and press, he received inspiration from China. So it is contrast. It cannot be cause and effect, because there is no cause or effect. The text just tells you that Gutenberg's print and press was not actually his original idea.
