It isnt C. I have already tried it. It would only be C If the question said work done to and not by. Like you said compression requires work, means work done to, not by

The intake pulls fuel into the cylinder. The exhaust stroke lets the gases out. The compression stroke takes the gases from the intake stroke and compresses them. Then the power stroke propels the piston to the other end of the cylinder and pushes the connection rod which is connected to the drive shaft and that is connected to the wheels. Which one does work by the system to the car/truck/whatever?

I actually just took the quiz for AP Chem on APEX and compression was wrong, maybe try what John says and choose power stroke
