Why does a weather balloon pop if it goes too high?

The pressure in the balloon decreases as the temperature increases.
B.
The pressure in the balloon increases as the volume decreases.
C.
The volume of gas increases as the pressure decreases with altitude.
D.
The volume of gas increases as the amount of gas in the balloon increases.
Im guessing it is either C or D because balloons expand at high altitudes

But you KNOW it can't be D. The AMOUNT OF GAS INCREASES? You know the amount of gas is not increasing. Who is up there at 10,000 feet pumping more gas into the balloon. No one. There is a fixed amount of gas at the moment the balloon is released on the ground and no more is added on its way up into the great blue yonder.
