Calculate the gradient of a hill having a rise or vertical interval is 300 m while the run or horizontal equivalent is 7 cm. Note: The scale is the map is 1:200,000.

what a tangled question! It appears that the 300m is actual distance, while 7cm is on the map. If so, then the actual distance represented by 7cm is
.07 * 200,000 = 14000 m
So the gradient is 300/14000 = 3/140 = 2.1%
