The sum of two numbers is 27. The larger number is 3 more than the smaller number. What are the two numbers?

x+y = 27
y = x+3
Now just solve for x and y.

The answers are 12 and 15 because 27-3=24 and 24/2 is 12. 12 is the smaller number and 12+3 (15) is the larger number.
