I've tried taking the ln of both sides but led me nowhere near the answer. Please help!

if you are solving for x...I am not certain what you are looking for...graph both sides
y1=e^4x
y2=-x-1
see where they intersect to find x.
I can see no way to factor, or use exponential equations to satisfy any simplificatioin.
