4 - 1 = 3. -5 - 1 -6
what do i do now?

Answered by oobleck
just follow the directions!
x/4 + 1 = -5

subtract 1 from both sides
x/4 = -6

then multiply both sides by 4
x = -24

And last and most important, check your answer to see whether it works in the equation!
Does -2/4 + 1 = -5?
Does 3/4 + 1 -5?
Does 4/4 + 1 = -5?
No No No
You would have known you were wrong had you checked your answer.

Both sides means both sides of the equal sign.
1 - 1 = 0
-5 -1 = -6

now multiply both sides by 4.
