How would you separate octane and ethanol? (Note: no open flame or heat is allowed due to the flammability and flash point of the octane!)

Octane and ethanol are not miscible. Place the mixture in a separatory funnel, allow the two to separate, open the stopcock and allow the ethanol to flow through into a beaker. Close the stopcock when all of the ethanol is in the beaker. The octane will be in the sep funnel.
