The ozone layer is found in the stratosphere. Ozone helps by filtering out harmful ultraviolet radiation so the radiation doesn't harm humans. Ozone is harmful when a human inhales it causes chest pain and damages the lungs. The presence of chlorine-containing source gases (primarily CFCs and related halocarbons). In the presence of UV light, these gases dissociate, releasing chlorine atoms, which then go on to initiate ozone destruction.
