multiplication is commutative, so
(2x10^3)(4x10^-5)
= 2x4x10^3x10^-5
= 8x10^(3-5)
= 8x10^-2
(2x10^3)(4x10^-5)
= 2x4x10^3x10^-5
= 8x10^(3-5)
= 8x10^-2
